Santa Ana Winds Prompt Fire Weather Alert

A fire alert is issued for high winds, low humidity and local authorities are urging residents to immediately report fires.

Foothill residents are on fire weather alert today as wind gusts reach near 25 mph Wednesday night and combine with low humidity to Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

"If fire ignition occurs there could be rapid spread of wildfire that would lead to a threat to life and property," the NWS reported.

Locals should take precautionary, preparedeness actions for a possible fire during a red flag warning, the agency said. If anyone notices a fire it is crucial to report it and tell fire crews immediately.

High pressure is expected to form over the surface of the Los Angeles Basin, creating strong offshore winds throughout the Angeles National Forest before lessening Thursday afternoon, about 3 p.m., the NWS reported.

Winds will also drop humidity below 15 percent by this evening, the agency said.

Wednesday: High near 70 degrees; Low near 56 degrees

Thursday: High near 72 degrees; Low near 53 degrees; Winds could gust as high as 20 mph

Friday: High near 81 degrees; Low near 56 degrees; Winds could gust as high as 25 mph

Saturday: High near 84 degrees; Low near 59 degrees

Sunday: High near 83 degrees; Low around 60.
