Public Works Re-Opens Forest Roads, More Wind Expected

Roads closed due to Monday's storm that brought snow to lower elevations in the Angeles National Forest re-opened Wednesday. More windy weather on tap for the weekend.

As mountain roads re-opened to motorists Wednesday, the National Weather Service posted a high wind watch for the weekend.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works announced the re-opening of the following roads in the Angeles National Forest, closed Monday due to snow and icy conditions: Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway; Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Angeles Forest Highway to Angeles Crest Highway and Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Vogel Flats Road to Angeles Forest Highway.

Though temperatures are expected to hover in the 50s during the day and 40s at night, winds are expected to blow into town Thursday night. Wind speeds could reach 20-40mph with possible gusts of 65 mph by Friday morning, according to the weather service's wind watch.

As residents continue to clean up and receive damage estimates from the, the National Weather Service advises that a "high wind event,'' with sustained winds of at least 40mph, or gusts of 58mph or stronger, could lead to additional downed power lines and cause unsecured objects to blow around.
