Portion of Building Collapses, No Injuries Reported

Residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution, authorities said.

A three-story apartment building was evacuated Sunday after a small portion of the building collapsed.

Rubble fell into what was described as a common walkway to the very rear of the apartment building around 11:51 a.m. at the building located in the 200 block of Monterey Road. Search and rescue crews conducted a search, no injuries were reported, according to South Pasadena Police.

According to scanner reports, a portion of a balcony fell onto the balcony of a lower floor.

Authorities are still on scene and have closed a portion of Monterey Road between Arroyo Verde down to Pasadena Avenue.

Wow. I wondered what was up yesterday. Sounded like pretty much the entire San Gabriel Valley emergency equipment was sent to respond.

Did you just hear it from your home, Jones, or did you go and check out all the commotion?

Hi Donna, I just saw and heard the fire and emergency units coming from Highland Park side, and South Pasadena side. Waves of vehicles. Thanks for the update, I'm just glad it wasn't another pedestrian hit at that intersection there.
