Update: Mountain Roads Reopen

Heavy snow had blocked Angeles Forest Highway down to the 4,500-foot level between Palmdale and La Cañada.

Updated 5 p.m.: Angeles Forest Highway and Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway have reopened, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has announced. 

Earlier: Snow closures remained in effect today on the backcountry routes in the Angeles National Forest, and chains were required on roads in a few locations in the foothills near Palmdale.

Los Angeles County road crews reported chain requirements on roads in the Leona Valley area, southwest of Quartz Hill. Those roads include Avenue K, 110th Street West, Leona Valley Road and other routes in that area.

Angeles Forest Highway between Palmdale and La Cañada was closed to through traffic, as heavy snow blocked the road down to the 4,500- foot level. That included connecting roads above Tujunga, and the road to Mt. Baldy.

Chains were required on Big Pines Road between the Antelope Valley and Wrightwood, including access to the Mountain High ski areas. North of Upland, Mount Baldy Road was closed north of its tunnel at 10 a.m., because cars were spinning out on the narrow roadway, CHP officers said.
