Forest Roads Closed for Impending Storm

Several roads in the Angeles National Forest have been closed as forecasters are predicting low snow levels and hail.

The Los Angeles Department of Public Works has announced road closures ahead of a storm that's predicted to coat parts of the Angeles National Forest in snow and ice.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold Pacific storm will drop snow levels to between 2,500 and 3,000 feet Friday morning, with mountain temperatures hovering in the high 20s. Gusty wind and dense, patchy fog with little visibility are also listed in the NWS hazardous weather statement

The closures, which will remain in effect until further notice, are: Angeles Forest Highway and Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) to Aliso Canyon Road. Also, Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Vogel Flats Road to Angeles Forest Highway.

The roads will be open to local residents and emergency vehicles.

The foothills are likey to see hail, thunderstorms and scattered showers.

Damn that global warming!!! I wonder how HOT it is back east today....
SteveB February 09, 2013 at 06:14 PM
Expecting 108 F in Perth, Australia, Sunday. You know, the hemisphere that is having Summer right now, not winter ....
JT Hampton February 09, 2013 at 07:56 PM
So, gittinjiggywitit, are you actually, in 2013 suggesting the planet's not heating up?
William Korn February 09, 2013 at 07:57 PM
Buzz, are you familiar with the term "troll" as it relates to the Internet? If not, you might want to consult your Funk & Wagnalls. You might find yourself in more congenial surroundings if you go to 4chan, although they are professionals over there and would probably eat you alive.
ROBERT E. FISHBACK February 09, 2013 at 07:58 PM
I believe global warming is caused by increasingly angry people :)
Ivan G February 09, 2013 at 09:25 PM
Then don't make them angrier! Some people have trouble understanding that despite an increase in the average some point observations can decrease.
not Carl Peterson lll February 09, 2013 at 09:31 PM
JT, yes, it was up to 29 degrees last night, and back east, wel, it was actually warmer than the south pole. Obviously just having fun here. Every single weather event is blamed by some on GW. I was simply giving the flip side. But for the record: No SINGLE event anywhere on Earth can be pinned as proof for either side.
ROBERT E. FISHBACK February 09, 2013 at 09:40 PM
Ivan..people should not become angry when they are wrong....every body is wrong on some things
Ivan G February 09, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Robert, over the course of my lifetime, I have observed that people often don't respond as they should.
ROBERT E. FISHBACK February 09, 2013 at 10:44 PM
Ivan, over the course of my being on Patch, I have observed they almost never do.
MtnManMike February 09, 2013 at 11:11 PM
Rather than saying Global Warming, most are using the term Climate Change. It's easier for people to understand. What we will see are wider variations in weather, and more extreme highs and lows. At this point, only a small percentage of the population thinks there is no man made climate change. There are some that would deny it, even if the earth was on fire. Oh well...

Those that cannot discuss the issue, will attack the person

It was called A new ice age in the late sixties, along with the 1968 book poulation bomb that predicted colder temps, and hundreds of millions of deaths in the seventies. As the data started to show othwerwise, some of these SAME key players used the same method to cry out global WARMING. Then once again as the data was proving them wrong again since 1998, they changed the wording again to climate CHANGE, wich allows them, to declare anything as proof. As the hockey stick gate unfolded many more started to take a look at the data that was "lost" and " "unavaiable" finally could be seen, along with the emails that revealed the conversations about how to lie, and "hide the decline", it began unfolding. Still many are not even aware of these circumstances, and go along with this hoax. 50% of the population is not a "small percentage" http://www.gallup.com/poll/126560/americans-global-warming-concerns-continue-drop.aspx Do your own research .....out of the loop of Michael Mann, who is involved single handedly is with many publications and panels. They are also used incestuously to back up each others "facts". Checking facts, and rechecking counter points can fan out to infinity. But it could take 40- 100 hours of work to filter enough crap from both sides to find the truth... good luck I was a believer also.
William Korn February 10, 2013 at 06:11 AM
But Buzz, you already know my position. And everyone that hasn't spent the last several months living in a cave on the slopes of the Hindu Kush knows yours. By your own statement "for the record" below, you effectively disavow the piece of smarminess to which I responded, which in turn leads to the conclusion that your comment served no other purpose than to be deliberately provocative. If that isn't the definition of a troll, I don't know what is. You should be pleased, since you did manage to elicit a response from me. Sorry it wasn't the one you wanted to hear. (No. I lied. I'm not sorry.) BTW, don't go to 4chan despite what I said. The folks over there are not very nice at all, at all.
not Carl Peterson lll February 10, 2013 at 07:24 AM
OH willy unwind a little. Simple humor was the openning post. No one responded until YOU did 16 hours later with Mr. "smarmy".
SteveB February 10, 2013 at 07:39 PM
Actually, Marty, I think I get credit as first responder, for whatever that is worth. While I recognized you were poking fun, in my view it helps perpetuate the idea the solitary weather events prove/disprove climate change. And given that your response wasn't really on topic, yeah, it could very well be labelled as trolling ....

"1970s ice age predictions were predominantly media based. The majority of peer reviewed research at the time predicted warming due to increasing CO2" http://www.skepticalscience.com/ice-age-predictions-in-1970s-intermediate.htm

Steve, every single time something happens with weather, some blame it on global warming. Thats every single time. Now with this semi-historic cold I not only DO NOT Try to claim such a thing. I obviously am trying light humor, I see a bit of hitting a nerve that was in no way intended. Why? What if I made the original statements as fact of cooling. I would then only be as lame as 90% of the believers. Done. OK? As for the "new ice age", and global cooling----revitionist history attempt to downplay fact. Were you around and old enought to remember? Within three minutes I found something that might help clarify the new ice age of the seventies Here is the CIA report of the "Western world leading climatologists" and the concern that the lower temps, and odd weather, is a return to the normal of the last 400 years, where weather is usually less predictable. They decided they needed the absolute best data for the defense of the country, and the western world. GLOBAL COOLING http://www.climatemonitor.it/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/1974.pdf iT WAS IN THE SCHOOL BOOKS. It was every where. "skeptical science" is not skeptical, of anything, and is in that loop. You can keep throwing spagetti on the wall to see what sticks. ........ http://www.climatemonitor.it/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/1974.pdf
SteveB February 11, 2013 at 04:12 AM
Yea, Marty, I was around and remember the covers of Time/Newsweek and such. I was never taught any such thing is school, however. And while your linked paper is extremely interesting, what I draw from it is that point in time was more or less the dawn of climatological science - in the summary they even make the statement that "climatology is a budding science". We've certainly come a long way since then.
not Carl Peterson lll February 11, 2013 at 05:39 AM
Steve, I gotta hand it to you. Although you believe otherwise, you actually read both sides. Perhaps we have covered this before, but 90% of people on both sides fall down the party line, in a semi-concious emotional level. I am not above that, and struggled to make sure I was out of my own loop of influence. But now... You at first say that the coming ice age was a media event. I gave you the CIA report. Now you say it's because it was a new science. Don't you think that is moving the goal post. And I just remembered I still intend to give you a clean short read of the "proof" instead of this patchwork that happens. How did you know who I was so fast? I wasn't hiding it, but thought it would be fun for a week or two.

THIS IS THE FUNNIEST CLIP IN THE HISTORY OF......global warming The Newswoman asks bill nye if the freezing is Global warming, But yes there IS more. The next question shows a complete ....lets just say this is a keeper http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/cnn-anchor-asks-if-approaching-asteroid-was-caused-by-global-warming/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+OTB+(Outside+The+Beltway+%7C+OTB) Note to people who don't get it: this is a funny..... It is not even my funny..... None of the statements represent me, Patch network, huffington/aol, Altadena. But this is real life.......
SteveB February 11, 2013 at 04:32 PM
Marty - no moving of goal posts. I was just giving my take on the report you presented. As to Marty/Buzz/Jiggy, well, when you changed your ID, it changed for all your old posts as well ...
SteveB February 11, 2013 at 04:48 PM
An excellent example of ignorance in newscasting, but maybe you didn't link to what you intended? I didn't see anything about freezing and global warming, just a newscaster asking if an asteroid passing nearby was caused by global warming (which was pretty sad).
not Carl Peterson lll February 11, 2013 at 09:58 PM
I will give her one slimmer of hope. After searching last night, the only links I could find were on right to central right websites, which is not to uncommon for both sides. It just might have been edited, skipping something that might show she was joking.....
William Korn February 11, 2013 at 11:29 PM
I'm not wound up at all. I just don't have very much respect for trolls. Or for someone beating a dead horse. The horse you've been beating is so dead it might as well be sold as beef lasagna in England. You have every right to say whatever you want in whatever manner you want. By some strange coincidence, so do I.
not Carl Peterson lll February 13, 2013 at 07:54 AM
Steve, Your post of 11:44 a.m.on monday you stated that the 1970's fear of the coming ice age was predomintly media based. You read some of the CIA report, but stated that well it was a new science. The best light i can see that in would be perhaps you, and others would say that if they did say that an ice age was coming, they were still trying to get a handle on the informattion. http://anotherviewonclimate.wordpress.com/2010/01/15/time-announces-approaching-ice-age/ The media sources then, as now are the scientists. The link above will show that. By the way the Google search results have changed dramatically for that search. Instead of finding the information about the science reviews, and school books, it is flooded with GW proponents trying to downplay the facts. Thus all one sees at first now is the propaganda instead of the real search results. O.K. fine, that part of the issue does not really bring us anywhere anyway. Let me ask you.....Do you have an idea of what the pillars of knowledge is for the basis of the claimed Global warming? I am not asking you to answer that. ( though you could if you want) What i ask is this: What single pillar of the global warming debate would you challange me with, to debunk in a short clear, and factual way, the best I can. I believe I already gave you(voluntarily) one of my best facts in proving the hockey stick was a lie......are we on the same page on that one? If not it might be a good start.
