Foothill Municipal Water District Issues Statement on Drought Declaration

The Foothill Municipal Water District issued a statement last week after Governor Jerry Brown declared California to be in the middle of a drought.

Brown called for a 20 percent reduction in water usage in light of the revelation that 2013 was the driest year on record and that 2014 promises more of the same. Snowpack levels in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, which provides water to 25 million Californians, were measured at just 20 percent below average the FMWD said.

"During the last decade, Foothill has been proactive in its public outreach efforts, initiating conservation dialogue at workshops and community events to express how important it is for the community to maintain, for the long-haul, its own conservation efforts," said Nina Jazmadarian, Foothill Municipal Water District general manager.

The FMWD offered a link to www.saveourh20.org for customers to find current news on the drought.

The Foothill Municipal Water District provides imported water to many areas, including the Rubio Canyon Land and Water Association, Lincoln Avenue Water Company and Las Flores Water Company.
