Athletics. Community service. Music. These are just a few of the traits that the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada Flintridge looked for in choosing its “Terrific Kids” awards. Many of the honorees were chosen for their participation in school and community activities. The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada Flintridge recently honored eight students from Palm Crest Elementary and La Cañada Elementary. The event, held at Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens, recognizes young adults and their parents during a special luncheon.
The Kiwanis Club, founded in 1984, contributes to a number of civic groups. The organization, consisting of around 100 members, supports other groups such as Habitat for Humanity and the La Cañada Tournament of Roses. They have also hosted past events such as a program welcoming new teachers to the La Cañada schools.
“The primary objective was to choose kids who were terrific, nice kids, who do a lot of community service, do a lot of good stuff at school and at home,” said Dr. Al Restivo, Kiwanis publicity chairman.

Andrew Blumenfeld, a member of the La Cañada School District Board of Education, and Kiwanis Club Terrific Kids Leader Tom Slaughter were on hand to recognize the honorees. students who were honored included Holly Stover and Kelly Steele. students who were honored included Ethan Tervet, Samantha Veingkeo, Jason Del Pierro, Sideny Chun, and Ethan Crane.
