Grease is at The Lanterman Auditorium this weekend

Come watch local children in the La Canada Jr. Theatre group re-enact life in the 1950s at Rydell High School. Tap your toes to the musical's favorite numbers that include "Greased Lightning,'' "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" and "Beauty School Dropout."

This is the third summer that the La Canada Junior Theater will perform a hit musical in our community. One of the longest running Broadway musicals, "Grease," is coming this weekend to . The cast is excited to show their family and friends the culmination of their three-week musical theater summer camp.

Performances are Friday, July 27 and Saturday July 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

Suzan Spann is the artistic director and producer of the show. “We have a really great cast this summer,” said Spann. As an actress and veteran teacher producing children’s theatre for over eleven years, the attractive Spann is excited about this lively production. “It’s a fun show and every cast member shines.”

Many of the cast members know the talented director of Grease, Thom Vacca, because he is also the Fine Arts specialist in Drama at , and schools. As a working actor and comedian, he has taught the cast many “tricks of the trade.”

The lyrical India Dupre is the show’s singing coach. She taught the kids to belt out all the catchy tunes that include, “You're The One That I Want" and “We Go Together."

All of the dancing in the show was taught by Maria Del Bagno, a professional dance instructor and choreographer. She leads the dance program at South Pasadena High School and has choreographed professionally for TV and film, including projects for Disney.

The musical Grease was first performed in 1971 onstage in Chicago. It was such a success, that in 1978, it was made into a movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
